We believe that we provide the best level of patient care when we all work together in a collaborative manner.

Dr Darren Hills

Specialist Orthodontist and Partner

BDS(Bristol), MScD(Wales), FDS RCS(Eng), MOrth RCS(Eng). GDC No. 63864

"I love what I do and strongly believe everyone deserves the self-confidence that an attractive smile provides - it enhances my patients’ lives, no matter what their age."

Darren believes that everyone deserves the self-confidence that an attractive smile provides and has delivered this to thousands of patients over his 25 year career as a specialist orthodontist.

After completing his dental degree at Bristol University in 1988, Darren undertook a series of hospital posts before completing a 3 year full-time Specialist orthodontic training programme at Cardiff University in 1996. He has worked continuously in private practice since 1996 and was registered as a Specialist by the General Dental Council in 1999.

He always takes great care to understand patients to enable him to offer a choice of bespoke treatment options that deliver the desired outcome, while fitting in with often busy lives, be it at school, work or just socially. Everyone has different priorities and each treatment is unique, both in terms of its specific aims and how it is delivered.

Darren offers many types of braces to all age groups. A majority of his work however has involved invisible braces (lingual technique) with huge success over the past 20 years. He has produced fantastic outcomes whilst undertaking the most complex of treatments. For many years Darren has worked closely alongside other Specialists and Dentists to ensure his patients achieve the very best results whilst conserving natural tooth tissue where possible.

Darren and his previous practices have won multiple industry awards, including Best UK Dental Practice, a testament to the level of detail and patient care provided. He has continuously sat on local dental committees for the last 20 years, lectured nationally and internationally, and in 2012 was voted the 8th most influential private practitioner in the UK.

In addition to the provision of quality, bespoke specialist treatments, Darren strongly champions the need for great customer care and a highly skilled, motivated and integrated team and this is the ethos behind Bristol Dental Specialists, of which Darren is a founding partner.

When not at work, Darren enjoys travelling and spending time with his wife and two young daughters. He is passionate about classic cars, architecture and is also a keen runner.

Dr Eithne Fyfe

Specialist Oral Surgeon and Partner

BDS(London), MSc(Bristol), FFD RCS(Irel), FDS RCS(Eng), PG Cert Clin Ed, FHEA GDC No. 64065

"I value being able to work in a multi-disciplinary team of specialist clinicians whose shared goal is to provide the very best patient-centred care."

Eithne enjoys being part of a specialist multi-disciplinary team, working alongside colleagues who aim to provide the very best patient-centred care.

Having graduated as a dentist from Guys hospital in 1988, Eithne embarked on her junior hospital training posts in the South West. She was awarded her Fellowship in Oral Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 1992 and from the Royal College of Surgeons England in 1998. She was registered as a Specialist Oral Surgeon with the General Dental Council in 2001.

Eithne completed her MSc in Palliative Medicine at Bristol in 2008, with a research interest in quality of life for patients with oral/head and neck cancer. Her main clinical interests are the surgical management of diseases and disorders of the mouth and she routinely carries out dental extractions and minor oral surgery. Eithne also has many years of experience in the administration of Botox for therapeutic use in the management of facial pain.

Working part-time as a Consultant Oral Surgeon at Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry, Exeter, she is programme lead for the recently established MSc course.  She works part-time as an Associate Specialist in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at University Hospitals Bristol, where she also teaches and examines both undergraduates and postgraduates and is a clinical supervisor for trainees in Oral Surgery.  Eithne is a founding partner of Bristol Dental Specialists and brings a wealth of hospital experience to the practice.

Eithne’s four children keep her rather busy but she likes to squeeze in some social running, cycling and dancing in her spare time.

Dr Ben Cross

Specialist Orthodontist and Partner

BDS(Wales), MScD(Wales), MFDS RCS(Eng), MOrth RCS (Edin). GDC No. 80759

"I love the journey patients take as I treat them. Many start lacking confidence, part way through treatment they feel more positive and by the time they finish they are beaming a radiant smile."

Ben loves the journey his patients take throughout their treatment. Many patients start out concerned about the appearance and lack self-confidence. Part way through treatment, they start to feel much more positive about making self-improvement and by the time they finish they are beaming radiantly at everyone they meet.

Qualifying as a dentist form the university of Wales in 2002, Ben spent 15 happy years as a dentist in the British Army, working in Germany, Africa, Cyprus and Gibraltar. After a year working as a Senior House Officer in the maxillofacial surgery department in Portsmouth, he was selected to undertake 3 years further Specialist training in Orthodontics and completed this in 2011, he is now registered as a Specialist with the General Dental Council.

Ben is able to offer several aesthetic Orthodontic options to both children and adults. His focus during the consultation phase and treatment is to determine a patient’s dental desires and to address each of these individually.

He has a particular interest in multi-disciplinary dental treatment of adults with worn and compromised teeth, which is why he was thrilled to become a founding partner of Bristol Dental Specialists.

He is also delighted to offer Invisalign treatments (removable clear aligners) to children as well as adults.  This is a relatively new offering in the UK and is increasing in popularity. It can work extremely well for children from 8 upwards who lack confidence due to the appearance of their mixed dentition or have lost functionality of the teeth and are unable to play an instrument, sing or perform as well as they would like.

Ben is also interested in developments in 3D imaging and completed his MSc dissertation on the accuracy of these techniques. He believes that the integration of these new technologies, can help with multi-disciplinary treatment planning, can make treatment more predictable and in some cases quicker. Setting Bristol Dental Specialists up from scratch has allowed us to integrate all of these technologies under one roof with top of the range x-ray and scanning machines.

Ben is a keen cyclist and lives a contented life with his wife and two children in the countryside near Bristol.

Dr Adrian Watts

Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Implant surgeon and Partner

Adrian Watts BDS(London), MRD RCS(Eng), FDS RCS(Eng), FDS (Rest.Dent) RCS(Eng), FFD RCS(Irel). GDC No. 63380

"Throughout my career I have endeavoured to combine my hospital commitments with private practice, allowing me to collaborate with specialist colleagues whose skills complement my own. This is the very essence of the partnership at Bristol Dental Specialists."

Adrian has worked in referral practice in Bristol since 1996, having graduated from Guy's Hospital, University of London in 1988. He commenced Consultant/Specialist training in Bristol Dental Hospital in 1995 and, in 2001, was awarded an International Team for Implantology Scholarship to spend a year studying and teaching implant dentistry at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Adrian’s broad experience and training enables him to quickly analyse a dental condition and provide complete clarity to patients when explaining their diagnosis.

Adrian returned from his scholarship year in 2003, to became principal in his own Clifton-based, Specialist referral practice in 2007. This business was sold in 2014, when Adrian began a collaboration with two other founding partners and, in so doing, planted the seed for Bristol Dental Specialists. Alongside Specialist referral practice, Adrian has been a part-time NHS Consultant at Cardiff Dental Hospital for 10 years, where he led the implant dentistry module on a Specialist training programme. From September 2019, he will work as a part-time NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and at Bristol Dental Specialists. Adrian will continue to teach and mentor dentists through the educational arm of Bristol Dental Specialists, Bristol Dental Academy, which will offer a Specialist lecture programme.

Adrian is a registered specialist with the General Dental Council for Restorative Dentistry, Periodontics, Endodontics and Prosthodontics – a claim which can be made by very few dental surgeons in the country. This is most reassuring for referring dentists and their patients.

When not working, Adrian enjoys cycling, surfing (badly), playing football, watching rugby (sadly no longer playing) and attending theatre and comedy gigs.
